The MCA Experience: Glimpses of India!

“Glimpses of India” is an exhibit of art and paintings by local artist Dr. Sheni Meghani. Her work is inspired by the richness of folk-life, culture and traditions of India. Through her art, Sheni shares the folklores and folk-songs she heard and danced to as a child growing up in India. Audience will enjoy the multi-sensory experience of seeing paintings as Sheni narrates folk-stories and sings folk-songs associated with each of her painting. Four series of her paintings will showcase the folk-life, folk-art, festivals and “sari” (a beautiful traditional attire worn by Indian women) of India.

During the exhibit, MCA and the artist Dr. Sheni Meghani will facilitate several workshops and lecture-demonstrations on various aspects of Indian culture and traditions such as folk-life, music, festivals, the art of henna, fabrics and attire. NOTE: This exhibit and all the programs are open to and FREE for everyone (excluding the Henna workshop), but registration is required for each event. To register, please visit mcaocala.org

This exhibit will celebrate diversity and similarities among various cultures; this will be highlighted by the artist’s personal experiences narrated through stories, songs and paintings as she looks back at her growing up in India through the prism of two decades of her living in the US. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage in, learn about and experience a culture that represents and enriches our community.

~July 7, 2022, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm – Art of henna – Class and workshop (Register online!)

~July 8, 2022, 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm – Workshop – Indian Sari (opportunity for participants to wear sari)

~July 9, 2022: 11 am to 3 pm – Last day to view the exhibit!
