Painted Horse Urban Ultra
This is a low-key, self-supported urban adventure run. It is not a race. If you like signing up for fun runs, running around strange places with a list of turn-by-turn directions, and taking pictures of painted horses, this is your jam!
You will see 30+ painted horses over the 35(ish) miles of your run. They are gorgeous works of art, and some are lovely tributes painted by students and teachers.
The route and horses are best enjoyed with others so you can get photos of your journey, keep each other sane, run safely, and help navigate/find turns/spot horses.
The run will start at 7:00am at the Santos Trailhead and end at the Appleton Museum. There is no time limit for finishing. We will coordinate some volunteers to provide rides from the finish to the start in the morning or the finish to the start in the afternoon depending on where you choose to park your vehicle.
Our amazing finisher awards were made by Brie of Wicked Skins Athletics. Each are unique and you will get to choose your finisher’s award upon completion of the run.
All route and horse information is located in a handy dandy google doc. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
Due to COVID-19, this is a tentative date. We do not anticipate a large field or an “afterparty” atmosphere at the finish line. Since all events are subject to CDC Guidelines, we may have to move this event’s official date, but the “Whenever” option is a good choice for anyone wanting to run the route and make it work for them.
The Whenever Option
If you want to run this route, but don’t want to do it on the same day as everyone else, you can do that! Simply sign up and send a message to us through Facebook either before or after you complete the run (if you choose to do the “whenever” option, please know that a ride and receiving your finishers’ award on the day of is not guaranteed, but we will try to accommodate requests made in advance). You must submit your data to be added to the finishers list and the award may have to be mailed to you.
The Horsin’ Around Option
If you aren’t quite ready for an ultra, but are still intrigued by the route, you can break it up into sections that are doable for you. As your run will be spread out over multiple days or weeks, to qualify for a finishing time and award, you must provide data for all of the runs.
